State Fair Dates:          Thursday, Aug 26 thru Labor Day (September 5, 2011 ) 

Lion Screening Dates:  Friday PM, August 26 - Sunday, Sept 4,2011

2011 Screening Location:       Behind Food Court & Children's Animal World; to the right of the Animal Judging area; Bottom of hill where chain saw artist is located.

Fair Entry Tickets:   Wearing your Lions shirt "should" get you in without at ticket.

Thank you 22C for letting us use your Vision and Screening Bus.  We will take good care of it!

Getting there:  Park your car somewhere along the light rail system and park for free. Seniors, 55+, $ .55;

Exit the Train at State Fair Grounds stop. Allow 1 hour from Cromwell Bridge

DRIVING DIRECTIONS   

  • Beltway to I-83 north toward York & Harrisburg.

  • Take exit, 16A or 16B (Both exit to Timonium Road). Left at Light onto Deerco & travel 1/2 mile

  • On the right, look for the Park & Ride.  Not the "Kiss & Ride" area. 

  • Walk to the Light Rail & Cross over into the State Fair.

LIGHT RAIL  Avoid the $5 parking fee around the fair grounds, 

1) Parking is plentiful two stops down at the Lutherville Light Rail stop in  the Yorkridge Shopping Center, located at the track end of Ridgeley Rd. near the intersection of York Road and Ridgeley Road. Old Navy, Loehmans and Borders are located in this shopping district. 

2) Park at Hunt Valley Mall.  The Mall has many shops & eateries.

3) Or, if you arrive early, free parking is available at the Timonium Light Rail Park-and-Ride.

GUIDANCE & INSTRUCTIONS

We welcome your support! Lion Clubs are welcome to take multiple shifts over several days and even share time slots with other clubs. Bring the Leo's, services hours can be earned! They can learn how to administer tests!

MANPOWER NEEDS    We need 4 PEOPLE PER SHIFT;  TWO SHIFTS PER DAY.

PAPERWORK FOR DOWNLOAD       1) HOW LOUD DECIBELS     2)   Tally & Census Sheet  3) Volunteer Sign In    4)  Audio Vision Screening Sheets   5) How Loud is Loud  6) Ten Questions

OUTSIDE THE BUS:  Two or three Lions can work the sign in table. Make sure the screening forms are filled, escort and explain the wait time and screening procedure.

FAQ

  1. We screen children 10 or older with parental consent & presence

  2. Prescription/corrective glasses must be on for the vision test

  3. Hearing aides must be functioning for the hearing test.

INSIDE THE BUS we need lions who can give visions test with Titmus 2s equipment and Welch Allen GSI 17 hearing test equipment.

OJT    On the job training is available for those who wish to learn the bus's screening equipment. DVD videos are available for both machine for initial equipment details. District Governor Owen is sponsoring training on August 16 at 6pm. See the email blast.

PAPER WORK    Audiology/Vision form will be available to score each person.  

    1) Information we want: first name, age, zip code and sex. 

        a) For those who are referred, they keep the test form to show their doctor...

        b) The test sheet for those who pass are not kept & destroyed.

    2) Each evening, we will complete the day's Master tally sheet contains

 TRAINING VIDEOS    DVD videos are available from Ken La Macchia.  Each video covers the operations basics for the hearing equipment (GSI 17) and vision (Titmus 2s) equipment basics. Additionally, an audio CD contains the Titmus Operational Instructions. 

 

BUS ENTRY    There is a realtor's type lock box hooked SEE KEN NEW LOCATION Take the key out to OPEN UP the front bus door and LOCK the bus when leaving the site. Push down on the black lever on the left and the compartment should open.

AIR CONDITIONING & LIGHTING

STEP 1:      Vehicle Power   

Sit Down on Steps, Open doors

STEP 2:      BUS LIGHTING     While still sitting, above the electrical service panel, flip up the three light switches above your head.  This turns on the vehicle lighting.

STEP 3:    Turn on the AC.  On the ceiling, approximately 10 feet behind the bus drivers seat, look up at the bus ceiling.  On the left side of the AC unit, turn on AC & select a cooling setting.

STEP 4:     FANS    There are two fans on the bus and located on the sidewall. (Behind the Bus Drivers). Both fans operate the same. It may be that they were left in an operating position from the previous evening .... Set the fan to "FAN" or "RUN".  Similar to your home HVAC unit, set it to your needs.  Temperature ranges setting can be made as well. 

STEP 5:  Set up the Outside Greeting area

        Morning Set Up Duties

  • Ah to dream!--Wouldn't THIS be nice!!Arrive at 11:30 AM to set up display 

  • Drag out & erect the 10 x 10 Sun Screen Tent 

  • Set Tent Tables & Chairs

  • Brochures & table forms are in a container.

        End of Day

  • CLEAN UP           

  •         Clean up during your shift

  •         Sweep up & Vacuum the Bus interior.

  • Close down after 7:45 pm by breaking down Sun Screen Tent

  •     FRONT DOOR   Bring the Tent thru the front & set behind driver.

  •     FRONT SEAT    Place papers, brochures & Lions "collections"

  •     BACK DOOR     Store tables & chairs across the back of the bus

  •                             (there is sufficient room behind the hearing booths);

  •                            

  • BUS SHUTDOWN     Turn off the Bus AC (3 items). 

  •                                 Shut the door to LOCK THE BUS!

  •                                 Put the key back into the LOCKBOX

        Operational Concerns:

  • Battery Charging-- We are not equipped to recharge personal scooters.  There is a scooter rental cart place but battery connections are not universal!

  • Bathrooms -- located inside the Cow Palace& behind us in the 4H
    Center

  • Food-- inside the Cow Palace & all over...

        GREETERS     Outside the Bus:

  • Greet customers & fill form & take customer's into the bus

  • Tell Customers how long the wait may be

  • FYI    Completed Forms can stay with the bus or taken with the customer.  (HEPA rules followed)

  • However, the Census must be filed (all the stats are in this form)

  • Bring customers into the bus. 

  • FAQ     "where do I take my old glasses",

  •                 Lens crafters in the Mall.

  •                 Many eye glass places -- look for our box.

Bus Drivers & Bus Set up

  • Driver should be on 22c list

  • Requires driver with "CDL" drivers license

  • Bus is stored in Lanham, MD (Off Washington DC beltway at MD 450)

  • Licensed CDL driver drives to and from State Fair

  • Fair Grounds hook up requires an Electrician.

  •     Bus is equipped with a 50ft 2" diameter black cable with

  •     yellow plug going into outlet by front door. 

  •     Bus is 50 AMP, single phase (cables stored in bus under carriage)

  • Hydraulic Levers level the bus

  •         (requires running bus engine & controls by driver's seat)

  • Run bus generator during week.  Turn on in front stairwell. 

  •         Toggle switch on outside & then open the drawer cabinet

  •         and switch rotary knob to "shore power".  

  • PS  a dead bus battery requires a good battery charger!!!!
